Das Baby

by W.F. Price on July 7, 2014

Well, another little guy has come into the world. I’m happy and relieved that all went well and he’s a healthy, vigorous boy. Despite the pain and exhaustion, my wife has been a trooper throughout it all, and now she’s a happy mama. I’m proud of her, and intend to give her all the help I can. She’s a beautiful mother, and I love her more than ever.

Below are a couple post-delivery photos of me and baby. He looks like a doll in the picture with me — I’d almost forgotten how tiny they are at birth.

And here’s my little hero himself:

I’m a pretty happy guy right now.

I also really appreciate the words of encouragement from readers. It’s genuinely touching.

One thing I’d like to say to young men out there who may become fathers some day themselves is that children teach you that there aren’t really limits to your love. You might think you only have so much, and it has to be shared like pieces of a pie, but that isn’t how it works.

It’s more like a tree that keeps growing as long as it’s alive. Every new child is like another branch on the tree, and as it grows so do the previous branches. It’s a wonderful thing that way.

Congratulations to you and your wife. And the new lad. Best wishes for his and your future.
Your next sleep is in six weeks, or is it ten?

You’re wearing a sweatshirt, and it’s early July in the Northern Hemisphere. Do they keep hospitals cold, at least in the maternity wards? Where I am, summers aren’t that much hotter than in the Pacific Northwest.

Maybe the best thing I have seen on The Spearhead.

After putting my dad to rest I moved back to NM and am living with my son and wife. Small house but I really enjoy having my son around. My boys are the only friends I have at this stage of life. Oh I could join the American Legion or some other old men’s drinking organization to get some comraderie but I still have to eke out a living and just don’t have time for it. In trying to unclutter my life I am astonished at the youthful energy I had for amassing such a pile of useless crap.

Looking back though I wish I had fathered children earlier and had more of them. I find myself contemplating grand-children but that probably won’t happen for awhile.

Mornings and nights are cool even in July here, usually in the mid 50s, and the baby was born in the morning. Since I’d recently come back inside, I hadn’t bothered to take the sweatshirt off at the time.

As for how hot summers are, I think you’d find Whatcom County noticeably cooler than New York. It rarely breaks 80 near the coast. Out on the Olympic Peninsula the coast is essentially the same temperature all year — cool to tepid.

Oh. I just don’t think of the Capital Region of New York as being all that hot in the summer as it has never been above 95 during the day on my birthday (August 21) in my lifetime and even since record keeping began.

Like I said…

Put that wonderful photo of you and the bambino on a tee with a catchy slogan.

Maybe “Baby needs a new pair of shoes!”

Or “Babies and dads: BFF!”

Or “Hats on to fatherhood!”

Or “Who looks more content?”

Or “Men hold the world together.”

Or…solicit other words on this site.

Then put “The Spearhead” with your URL on the back.

Offer said printed tees online for sale.

Watch the drachmas roll in.

Congratulations! I’m so happy for you and your wife and family. It is encouraging to see someone who’s been thru the meat grinder start a new family.

This is a great time of year for a birthday in my part of the world, lots of rodeos and festivals and camping and just celebration of summertime. I hope your boy will be able to spend his birthdays doing things he loves!

New babies are self-programmed learning machines. I love to watch babies from birth as they learn so much in such a short time.

My own grandson made a big joke when he was 15 months old. His dad said he had been told the grandfather did the same thing.

Some adults can’t even make jokes.

Oberbürgermeister Manboobz-the-Jealous, his willy begging female acolytes and other barren one’s have done a drive-by of spite here.

See all the down votes from them bitter shrews, whom not having nor loving any children of their own, seek to demote and to impune other men and women gifted with offspring and the other simpler joys of living.

Price:

Congratulations! I hope the baby, mum and dad are doing well.

As for the blog, let it drop. Internet stuff doesn’t matter compared to the new baby. Don’t guilt yourself out over imaginary obligations when you have a gurgling real world obligation right in front of you.

Best and try to get some sleep in the next few weeks. It’ll be a busy time but a good one.

Enjoy it and congratulations again!

Touchdown! A sheer bundle of Win. Congrats.

Like Thos. said, don’t let the other stuff thieve any of those incredibly precious and short moments. Although it won’t feel like it at 3 a.m., as you know. I developed a chronic addiction to Civ v1.1 and the first Wolfenstein because babies … watch out.

Ahhhh, very well done. Now get to work grinding up some Red Pills to put in his milk or formula; kinda like fluoride in tap water for a growing boy. It’s good to inoculate against the hazards of the modern world!

Thos.
Most likely a planned parenthood employee. That sour grapes thing about that boy being born alive and well to a married couple. Being held by his dad.
