Gina Bellafante, writing for the NY Times, asks what’s become of feminism when a policeman can get away with fantasizing about cooking women without provoking feminist outrage.
Today, simply using the word seems benighted, as our most dominant feminist debates are conducted at the level of rarefied conflict between satisfying maternal desire and satisfying the ambition to run global assets management at JPMorgan. But if the case of Gilberto Valle, the New York City police officer who inhabited an Internet subculture populated by men who think about raping and torturing women, roasting them on spits and eating them, doesn’t serve as a summons to broaden our gender discussions and think about what it means when a society can easily and actively nourish its most heinous notions about women, it’s uncertain what could.

“There’s a huge amount of online activity devoted to cultivating horrific impulses toward women,” Jane Manning, a former sex-crimes prosecutor and currently the legislative vice president for the National Organization for Women’s New York City chapter, told me. “And we haven’t grappled with this as a society.”
“There’s an odd confusion in the feminist movement,” she added. “We’ve all accepted the idea that speech is protected when it’s speech. But that seems to have extended to the notion that there shouldn’t even be social condemnation attached to incredibly horrifying misogynist speech.”
In the instance of the Valle trial, the details have been so voluptuously grotesque that the impact of the strange universe that Officer Valle occupied has been blunted. Most New Yorkers have surely encountered coverage of the trial through the tabloids, which have predictably rendered it as a screenplay for the 46th chapter of “Scream.” (“ ‘Cannibal’ cop had BBQ plans for beauty,” “If looks could grill!”) There’s been more vocal outrage over Seth McFarlane’s distasteful Oscar jokes than there has been over the uncountable numbers apparently willing to think about women in the same terms as shell steaks.
An angry third wave feminist responds, saying that cannibalism is a far lower priority today than ageism, lookism, etc.
There are so many ways that misogyny and sexism impact women’s lives every day — marriage equality, equal pay, access to abortion, access to the morning after pill, ageism, lookism, I could go on and on. Feminists are screaming and yelling, blogging and tweeting, all over the Internet all day long about those issues. And even if feminists aren’t standing on the UWS of Manhattan, yelling at people to sign a petition about porn, doesn’t mean we don’t get out in public either. Ever heard of the March For Women’s Lives or SlutWalks? Ever read Racialicious or Feministing or Reproductive Health Reality Check? Instead, Bellafante patronizingly suggests in her piece, entitled “Remember Misogyny,” that women today have become so complacent that we’re content to let cannibals eat us all. Or something.
Although this cannibalism angle is a bit absurd, maybe Ms. Bellafante is on to something. Could it be that the issues facing women today are actually pretty trivial? Is it possible that whatever it was that motivated the 2nd wave feminists isn’t even relevant any longer, and now feminists, for lack of any real problems, are resorting to getting worked up over boob jokes?

What feminists have gotten worked up about recently is completely ridiculous. The “boob” jokes were humor and satire, and while perhaps were in poor taste at the Oscars, were very funny.
Why should it be a problem that men fantasize about women cooking? What really is more problematic is that women fantasize about being raped- something which is a crime for a man to do, and if convicted will ruin a man’s life forever.
Do we see men worked up about women’s fantasies about criminal males? Of course not, we see women for the children they really are- and in our fantasies, they should be back in the kitchen (where they belong).
I’m lost here, I thought a man fantasising about cooking would be a feminist’s dream.
The problem is that feminism got what it purported to want – women in the workplace, children killed in the womb and/or shoved in daycare at birth – but it didn’t make women happy. Rather than connect this new unhappiness (and soaring mental illness rate) with the unnatural and dysfunctional social change they’d demanded, they decided the problem was they didn’t have *enough* social change. Hey, no-one ever said logic was feminist’s strong point.
So they had to, essentially, invent new problems to complain about, e.g. boob jobs and botox. Women moan about the terrible pressure they feel to mutilate their bodies and inject toxic poisons into their faces, but I can confidently assert I have never heard a single man declare that “the problem with women today is that they don’t have enough boob jobs” or “their foreheads just aren’t frozen enough”.
Because women’s lives have now become so trivial and empty, not given the real meaning of children and family, they become increasingly frenetic and discordant in their search for meaning – and for things to complain about / blame men for.
Feminists shouldn’t be whining about men having fantasies about eating women.
We already know that feminists want to reduce the male population to one-ninth of its former total so that males would only form one-tenth of the remaining population, despite any protestation to the contrary feminazis, manginas and white knights may make.

Pioneer women appreciated their men because they saw and therefore knew what it took to make a living, let alone survive. They did plenty themselves so they had that ‘appreciation’.
Todays women have so much given them that they ‘feel’ entitled. The more they have – the more they want and of course it is never enough.
That’s why research has shown that women are more unhappy today than ever. There is no appreciation from these western wenches who are like children with little to no responsibility.

I can’t find any online activity cultivating horrific impulses towards women, without their clearly expressed consent and $1500. Maybe there’s a problem with my browser. The human brain is programmed to funnel all of society’s money to women, simply because a woman is a much scarcer reproductive resource than a man.
But women were required to produce their full capacity of children in return for all these resources. Today, women only produce 10-20% of their full capacity, with many producing 0%. Yet, they are still getting the resources funneled to them, which means they are keeping the difference for themselves. All the excessive houses built and financed on debt, the 80% of things in retail stores that a man would never buy, etc. All of this is evidence of resource allocation towards women is an obsolete paradigm.
Meanwhile, the modern world depends on work done almost exclusively by a small segment of the population – working men. For the group that does the most important work, to have to lowest rights, is unsustainable. Just like the group that only does a fraction of the work that initially justified all the resources going to them, is an unsustainable flow of resources.
Hence, the big rebalancing is coming…..

I understand being concerned for your children in the presence of a strange person, I can even understand entertaining thoughts of the nature that she voiced,but to openly voice your sexist bigotry and make a practice of treating people as though they were violent child molesters until proven innocent? That degrades the humanity of the person doing it more than the person receiving such treatment.
I thought about telling her that the person statistically most likely to harm or molest her child is her together with her boyfriend, but she’d probably have just called the cops on me for bursting her man-hating bubble.

A healthy and prosperous self-employed male in his 40′s and 50′s, unimpeded and unbroken by a psycho blood sucking female and the system that backs her up, can easily afford a surrogate mother and hire female caretakers, dischargeable at will, as well as have compensated and uncompensated companionship. When your done, you go back to your self-made paradise.
I feel sorry for men trapped in prisons of their own making, dying for dollars and supporting a system that exploits them.
On and on? REALLY? Let’s take these “grievances” one at a time:
1) Marriage equality: inequality means, by definition, that one party is favored. Since that party is the wife, this is not a legitimate feminist complaint. Marriage is only unequal insofar as it favors women.
2) Equal pay: already there – and have been for decades. In fact, with Title IX, Affirmative Action, etc: women are consistently paid more than men to do less than men in apples-to-apples comparisons.
3) Access to abortion: Abortion-on-demand at the exclusive determination of the woman has been the law of the land in all 50 states for the last 42 years – often subsidized by taxpayers, many of whom do not even approve of abortion. The man, however, has significant responsibilities for children he has no desire to sire, and even if they are the result of his being raped by the woman. Access to abortion is absolute, and the “benefit” goes primarily to women.
4) Access to the morning after pill: women may get those any time they like, and have other options to be rid of the child and all responsibility throughout any pregnancy, and even afterwords if she gives birth and just doesn’t want to keep the child. Men have ZERO morning-after options.
5) Ageism: Whatever: men deal with that too. At best, I miiiiiiight give that a quarter-point because age tends to hit woman harder than men. It has absolutely nothing to do with misogyny and sexism, though, so it’s not a valid feminist complaint. Know what? Never mind the quarter-point: men die years earlier than women on average, so even aging favors women over men.

This is the kind of confirmation bias that feminists are notorious for.
Women will always be victims. Not just because this is the primary way in which they view themselves but because they have no obligation to be anything else.
The reason women spent the last 10,000 years living under the control of men is because doing anything else was too victimizing. Even now when work is the easiest it has ever been we still can’t rely on women to function independently without special rights and privileges. We can’t even expect them to deal with guys asking them out at work without powerful sexual harassment laws.
