Will Hetero-Sexuals Line Up for the Fabulous New Benefits of Openly Gay Soldiering?

by Uncle Elmer on January 22, 2013

Well that didn’t take very long : as soon as the Pentagon allowed military personnel to be openly gay, same-sex couples started clamoring for off-post housing benefits and admittance to the “Wives Club“, which will no doubt soon be named “The Spouses Club” to avoid confusions. I commented on one blog that in the near future taxpayers would provide military lesbian marital-partners with in-vitro fertility treatments, dual incomes, careers, and generous retirements, along with repeated admonishments about their “heroism”. Looks like the future is here.

Back when I was on Ft.Bragg, soldiers were crowded into WWII-era wooden barracks built as temporary quarters meant to last no more than 10 years, but utilized by the Army well into the 1970s. When “marialitos” arrived from Cuba in 1980, the government housed them in some of those ancient barracks, and they rioted over the poor conditions.

But we made the best we could of it, and as military traumas go, that was pretty minimal. What I do recall though was the torrents of abuse the guys living in the barracks received from NCOs, which the guys living off-post were not subjected to. They just showed up to work like a regular job. There was some mild resentment of married soldiers who were granted extra pay and housing benefits so they could live off-post with their wives, and did not have to get flogged over dirty latrines or the trash cans overflowing with chicken bones and wine bottles. Otherwise we were free to “decorate” as we pleased, with Black Gentleman painting their rooms basketball-orange and “Crackers” papering their walls with somewhat clinical Hustler Magazine center-folds (for you younger fellows, back in the day we didn’t have internet but relied on “skin magazines” for entertainment).

Single men could move off-post, usually with several other soldiers to share the rent. But even splitting the cost left little else from your paycheck. Lower ranking enlisted pay at the time was less than $500 a month, even with “jump pay”.

Now, many of the female soldiers were lesbians, a tradition which endures to this day. The women lived in separate barracks and received no special treatment over the men, generally. And of course there were a few gay blades, but not flamboyantly so.

But all that is changing, and fast, as these “heroes” look to the media and politicians to step in and direct our military commanders to provide the extra pay and benefits needed to live together in off-post matrimony. While gay marriage is becoming legal in many areas, it is not yet recognized by the Pentagon. That barrier is sure to fall soon as pundits and politicos demand “justice” and “equality” for the brave gay troops. The effect on the morale of the hetero-sexual soldiers is not to be considered in the New Normal Military, because they’re just going to have to get used to it.

So what’s to keep straight soldiers from joining the party? Suppose you have two strapping hetero-sexual G.I.s, let’s call them Murdoch and Kowalski, long known to be “butt-buddies” among their comrades (hey, we all had butt-buddies), who decide to “tie the knot” and get married, not because they are gay, but to get in on the generous marital housing allowance. With the extra cash and nice crib they could be real players with the ladies, so long as they keep up the front of a happy, gay married couple. Sounds like the plot to a funny-ass military sitcom.

The rest of the team would naturally join in: Rambo, Berry, Danforth, Ortega, Messner, Krackhauer, Colletta, Jorgenson. Openly serving as gay soldiers (heroes, really) while living closeted lives as “crypto-straights”.

Uncle Elmer’s writing is smart and sensible, but I’m never sure how much of it is serious, and how much is tongue-in-cheek. Assuming that this post and the issues it raises are sincere, I can only assure you that most smart young American men do not consider these lesbian soldiers to be “heroes” – in fact, no more or less than they consider you and your brothers-in-arms to be “heroes.” Which is to say, not at all.

What is “heroic” about the American armed forces? Driving around some worthless desert shooting unarmed Muslims? Operating a robotic airborne drone that drops bombs on people from thousands of feet in the air? People who pose no threat whatsoever to us? And to what end? To protect the billion-dollar investments of savvy international crooks, who view young enlisted men as livestock. Anyone who knows how to read and think for himself knows it’s true.

I hope millions of dollars ARE wasted on spousal benefits for same-sex couples. Maybe we’ll actually run out of money, and have to shut down our hundreds of military bases around the world. Maybe we’ll have to cut short our constant “go show ‘em who’s boss” military adventurism (looks like Mali is next). Maybe we’ll even have to disband our military, and we’ll get an idea as to whether there really ARE hordes of Russian, Chinese and other foreign soldiers waiting to pore over our borders and invade (somehow) as soon as we drop our guard. That’s been pitched to a womanly, bed-wetting American public for decades now. I’d love to see whether it’s true.

@MKP

The US is already cutting short it’s constant ” ‘go show ‘em who’s boss’ …”adventurism”. Witness President Barack Obama’s announcement that the United States will transfer the primary responsibility for combat operations in Afghanistan to the Afghan military in the coming months, and the US’s decided lack of involvement in French Mali.

The US as THE global superpower is still a relatively new thing. As such our military zeitgeist reflects that- Brash, bravado, just like that of a hot-headed youth.

I agree that the US should return to its strategies of WWI and WWII. Not quite isolationism, but In World War I and World War II, the United States waited for events to unfold, and in Europe in particular it waited until the European powers reached a point where they could not deal with the threat of German hegemony without American intervention. In both instances, it intervened heavily only late in the war, at the point where the Germans had been exhausted by other European powers. It should be remembered that the main American push in World War II did not take place until the summer of 1944. The American strategy was to wait and see whether the Europeans could stabilize the situation themselves, using distance to mobilize as late as possible and intervene decisively only at the critical moment.

There are proper ways to return to the pre Cold War strategies, but what you suggest-
“Maybe we’ll even have to disband our military, and we’ll get an idea as to whether there really ARE hordes of Russian, Chinese and other foreign soldiers waiting to pore over our borders and invade (somehow) as soon as we drop our guard. The end is nigh; the end is nigh.

LOL; I wonder how long it will take for them to start getting quotas, using sexual harassment charges against straight troops and the like?

No matter how long it takes, it will be merely a fraction of what it will take before those in power realize they have pushed the vastly larger majority of straight people into ideological ghettos where their resentment is allowed to flourish. Only then will they even hint at concessions. Of course we in the mens movement are all to aware of that sort of treatment. Hopefully, we can get those disgruntled souls into the fold?

When I was a kid my brother had two macho friends who announced they were gay to avoid the (Viet Nam war) draft. They walked around town holding hands in public for several weeks, until they got out of “serving”. Now they’d be openly recruited as part of a “diversity awareness” campaign.

It should be pointed out that much like minority women are favored over minority men, Lesbian women are favored over gay men. Lesbians are cool, like Peppermint Patty. Gay men are still considered a little “creepy”.

When it comes to diversity quotas you ALWAYS go female, because you get the affirmative action two-fer. If she’s gay AND an identifiable-minority you’ve struck diversity GOLD, the trifecta. And then if she ever receives a Purple Heart or some accomodation for valor – she’s a shoe-in for elected office or presidential appointment at the national level. Just hand her the Party talking points and trot her around to events and interviews.

That’s been pitched to a womanly, bed-wetting American public for decades now. I’d love to see whether it’s true.”

In other words, you think that threat is a genuine one. Obviously. Because if you thought (like I do) that there was no chance whatsoever that a foreign army would invade the USA, then refusing to spend billions of dollar to counter-act that threat would not be “lunacy.” It would be very sensible. It would be no different than refusing to spend billions of dollars to protect against Martian invaders, or the military threat posed by Atlantis.

We don’t spend dollars or lives preparing for an invasion by Atlantis, because we don’t consider it possible. I don’t consider an invasion by Russia possible, so I’d like to treat that the same way.

I’m not trying to be a smart-ass, serious question: do you think there’s any chance that Russia, China, Pakistan, or anyone else would invade the USA? Why, how, and to what end? And if not, what do we need this multi-trillion dollar military machine for?

The way things used to be in the military is little more than romantic reminicence. How it is in the future matters far more. However, with very little of value left in the US worth defending, and a government now preparing to defend itself against its own people who cares what happens to it? In fact, the weaker and more ineffectual it gets, the better.

When I was stationed at Bragg 87 to 90 we had to move in to those shithole buildings while we waited for another unit to move out of our building. General Steiner wanted the whole division living on the same stretch of the Ardennes. Going from Smoke Bomb Hill to those temporarY WW2 barracks just sucked. And the married guys never had to pull fire guard in those tinder boxes. We all resented the off base married spammers.

One constant in the gays in the military debate is that the rhetoric, particularly from the opposing side, generally assumes male homosexuality. I would venture that homosexuality in the military has been and will remain largely a lesbian issue.

Even before the end of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, 8% of sexual assaults were Homosexual in nature. Think it will go up now that the Military is canvasing at Gay Clubs? Once a certain percentage of Gays is reached, their behavior changes and they become far more aggressive. Straight service men will be pressured by Gay Officers – that’s a certainty. Same thing happened in the Seminaries. Will Straight Men begin to avoid the Military as a Career just as they began to avoid the Priesthood? One can only hope so. Why does any White Man join an Organization that will make him be seen as a criminal once he comes home as a Veteran?
It’s an insance situation. We either take it back or let it fall and pick up the pieces after that.

Porn Sweep or Witch Hunt?

http://www.military.com/daily-news/2013/01/19/porn-sweep-or-witch-hunt.html?col=7000023435630&comp=7000023435630&rank=3

The Air Force announced Friday it had found hundreds of examples of pornography and tens of thousands of other inappropriate items in a recent sweep of bases and facilities worldwide….

Inspections took place in recent weeks at 97 active duty installations and offices worldwide. They uncovered about 32,000 items that fell into three categories: pornography, unprofessional material and inappropriate or offensive material. Inspections at Air National Guard installations are just starting, Air Force officials said.

The most wide-ranging category covered 27,598 “inappropriate/offensive” items. It included sexually suggestive posters in public areas, obscene cartoons and more than 200 images of aircraft nose art, some dating to World War II.

Trimegistus January 22, 2013 at 19:48

Yeah, let’s scale down our military and pull back home. And then when the rest of the world explodes into war, the way it always does without a dominant superpower keeping everyone in line, we’ll have to go out and sacrifice another generation of young men. Just like in WWI and WWII.

Peace-loving fools have been trying to end war by getting rid of soldiers and weapons for centuries now, and all they get is bigger and bloodier wars.

Now that Obama’s nearly done bankrupting and disarming the U.S., our time as superpower is done. Future historians will look back on this golden age when we kept the world at peace, and wonder why we were so stupid and cowardly to give it up.

I read a fascinating book called “The Whiz Kids”, about a group of young statisticians, one of them named Robert McNamara, who implemented econometric techniques for counting all the bullets and planes we had during WWII. Their leader, Tex Thornton, went on to turn “micro-wave ovens” into a commercial success, then founded Litton Industries and the corporate conglomerate craze of the late 50′s early 60′s. He envisioned a future in which meals would come pre-assembled and you would just shove them into a microwave, which must have sounded nuts at the time.

Henry Ford Jr. hired the entire bunch after the war and McNamara became head of Ford, inventing the classic “Ford Falcon” along the way. He became Secretary of Defense under Kennedy and Johnson and applied his statistical methods to conducting the Vietnam War, resulting in the infamous “body count” metric. One can argue the success of that tactic in a war of attrition, which Vo Nguyen Giap initiated to bleed the U.S. into a stalemate.

All of that is interesting to me as my dad, mentioned in “Air Force to Scrap the Strawberry Bitch?”, ended up highly placed in the Air Force’s logistical branch, a descendant of McNamara’s WWII efforts.

But now the Air Force counts “porn” and “offensive materials” while other branches exalt the brave lesbian hero/moms.

Incredibly, Giap, born in 1911, is still alive : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vo_Nguyen_Giap

http://hackforchange.org/

My problem with it is that the graphic chosen for it is the “we can do it!” poster of the woman blue collar worker from WWII. I’ve attended major conferences on code development, like Google’s I/O and Apple’s WWDC, and I can tell you that web code developers are 50 to 1 male.

When I see this “Women can do it!” graphic, my immediate inclination is to say “Let ‘em!” What a crock.

Beyond laffable. Self-proclaimed “hackers”, who really aren’t hackers, building hacker-consensus for world improvement.

I clicked a few of their links. Looks like they are busy “hacking the code”. Census.org gave me a blank page with “Failed to load page content”. “Geeks Without Bounds” also failed to load.

That “Census.org” failed to load is “ironic” as it was Herman Hollerith who applied Jaquard’s punch card concept to invention of a tabulating machine so the Census could handle the deluge of information for the 1890 census. One more innovation on the way to our modern computing technology.

Typical feminist nonsense in trying to make it about all their pet issues rather than just an expression of their innate curiosity about a technical subject, which is why men dominate “hacking” and every other technical endeavor while women build encounter groups to discuss how the domain can be changed to accomodate women and their “careers”.

The purpose of a military is to kill*. Ideally, this is done only in defense, but let’s go with a more Machiavellian definition: ‘violence to achieve one’s goal’, whether that goal is to free oppressed foreigners from tyranny or just steal their oil.

Just another example of mission creep that is plaguing almost every public and governmental organization. All this theater about heroic women and homosexuals in uniform and hand-wringing over decades-old slightly racy nose-art is a distraction from the core function: kill enemies (real, perceived or, unfortunately, manufactured). The more time, energy and money that is spent pissing around with such politically correct soap opera only impedes an organization from doing its real job.

Again, the army is there to make war, not hand out Everyone Is A Winner participation trophies and hold pageants to tell people how special they are. Forget “No man left behind”, it’s being replaced with the inclusive and empowering “No feelings left hurt”. Goes right back to Elmer’s (and others) observation that once an organization becomes feminized, it bends it abandons its primary mission (defending the nation (army), making a profit (business), etc.) in favor of making a comfy nest for its members.

*Or even better, the mere threat of killing wins the war before it starts.
