Joran Van der Sloot, who is suspected of killing Natalie Holloway in Aruba in 2005 and has been convicted of robbing and strangling a Peruvian woman, is now claiming that his girlfriend is pregnant. Yes, he has a girlfriend.
According to Van der Sloot, he impregnated her during an unsupervised visit several months ago:
A newspaper said Monday that Joran van der Sloot, a Dutch man who is serving a 28-year-sentence for murdering a young Peruvian woman, has impregnated a woman while imprisoned in Lima.
The Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf cited Van der Sloot’s lawyer Maximo Altez as saying the pregnancy is past its third month, and Van der Sloot himself as having confirmed the news in a telephone call on Saturday.
“A test has proved” the pregnancy, the paper quoted Van der Sloot as saying.
The woman, identified by the paper only as “Leidi,” was said to have become pregnant during an unsupervised visit with Van der Sloot. It was not clear whether that is allowed or possible under Peruvian prison rules.
Media in Peru last year identified a woman named Leydi Figueroa Uceda as Van der Sloot’s girlfriend…
He could be lying about the pregnancy – he is a notorious liar – but nobody is questioning the fact that he has a girlfriend.
Of all the men in the world, a woman chose to be with an imprisoned murderer. Meanwhile, plenty of perfectly decent men go without any women at all, are divorced by their wives, and so on, but if you’re a notorious murderer it’s evidently pretty easy to find a sweetheart. It’s pretty clear that in many cases, women simply aren’t interested in ordinary, run-of-the-mill, law-abiding men, because they find them boring.
So are all those folks yammering about the “Peter Pan syndrome” and men avoiding commitment going to finally shut up now?
Probably not. Willful blindness is pretty hard to cure.
