Feminist Face-off: Marcotte vs. Valenti

by W.F. Price on February 18, 2012

I know readers may recoil from the idea, but I’m kind of curious about something, so bear with me here. Yesterday, Crella posted a photo of Amanda Marcotte, and someone responded that he thought she was much older. Actually, she was born in the late 70s, just like Jessica Valenti. Amanda Marcotte and Jessica Valenti are the only two high-profile political feminists out there who are “young”, with both having worked for high-powered men at one point. Valenti worked for Bill Clinton, and Marcotte for John Edwards. This is how Gloria Steinem rose to power, for example. She worked for and dated a series of powerful men, who thought she was hot. Back in the 60s and 70s, I suppose the idea of a “liberated” woman was still pretty sexy, so Henry Kissinger and the like enjoyed being seen with them.

Those were different times, but I suspect high-profile feminists still rely to some extent on their looks for popularity. Jessica Valenti, for example, was the center of some controversy over her infamous boob-thrusting pose while alongside Bill Clinton, which was noted by an older female commentator.

Of course, it’s been a while since then, but she still likes to pose.

Amanda Marcotte may come off as a bit more humble than Valenti, but that’s probably because her breasts aren’t very large. However, despite her somewhat mannish jaw (a trait she shares with Valenti), she may actually have a more attractive face.

So, the question is, if readers had to spend a night with one of the two, which one would it be? Which of these two feminists is more physically appealing (or less repellent)?
