It looks like some of the ideas from the manosphere have finally made it big. The arcane term “hypergamy,” for example, was given new life by F. Roger Devlin, who wrote the review I discussed yesterday. It was virtually unknown until Roissy/Heartiste popularized it on his widely-read blog, but now it has appeared not only in the NY Times (right before V-day), but in the Wall Street Journal’s online edition in a piece by Taranto that could almost have passed for Heartiste’s daily fare.
Taranto addresses a couple of articles, including the Bennett “It’s time for men to man up” piece that came in for criticism here a couple months ago, and the recent NY Times op-ed by Stephanie Coontz that attempted to put a positive spin on the crashing marriage rate by pointing out that, relative to others, college-educated women aren’t doing so bad. Bennett’s simplistic piece lauded women for their achievements, then took men to task for being a bunch of immature losers. Coontz, for her part, suggested that educated women have it better, because now they can demand that their men scrub their floors, bake cakes and knit doilies.
In her conclusion, however, Coontz gives it all away:
I am not arguing that women ought to “settle.” I am arguing that we can now expect more of a mate than we could when we depended on men for our financial security, social status and sense of accomplishment. But that requires ditching the Lois Lane syndrome, where we ignore the attractions and attention of Clark Kent because we’re so eager for the occasional fly-by from Superman.
Yep, there it is. If you become a “kitchen bitch” for your wife, she’s going to be lusting after other men, and if she gets a “fly-by,” we all know what will happen…
Fortunately, Taranto takes both Bennett and Coontz to task with a good dose of reality in his “Girls gone hyper” piece:
She makes a fairly persuasive case that educated women are at an advantage over uneducated ones in today’s mate market. That shouldn’t be surprising. As Charles Murray shows in his new book, “Coming Apart: The State of White America, 1960-2010,” marriage has declined much less sharply among the educated and affluent than among the so-called working class. But it has still declined, and it can be expected to decline more absent a reversal of the trend toward greater female education and accomplishment.
The statistics Coontz marshals are less impressive than they seem. Of women who graduated college before 1900, 3 out of 4 never married. By 1950, she notes, a female college grad in her late 50s was nearly five times as likely never to have married than a nongraduate. Today, that gap has almost vanished, and there is no gap for women in their late 30s.
What Coontz doesn’t say is that this seemingly encouraging trend is almost certainly the result of selection bias. College-educated women were statistical outliers in 1900 or 1950. As the proportion of women who have college degrees expanded enormously, one would expect a convergence with the overall female population. In other words, married women were much more likely to have college degrees in 2010 than in 1900 or 1950. But when you put it that way, it’s a commonplace.

Most important, the problem that female education poses to marriage is a product of female, not male, mate preference–of what Coontz calls “the cultural ideal of hypergamy–that women must marry up.”
That is where Coontz goes badly wrong. Any evolutionary psychologist will tell you that female hypergamy–more broadly defined as the drive to mate with dominant males–is an animal instinct, not a product of human culture, which can only restrain or direct it.

For young ladies anxious about spending their lives alone, Coontz offers this advice:
Valentine’s Day is a perfect time to reject the idea that the ideal man is taller, richer, more knowledgeable, more renowned or more powerful. The most important predictor of marital happiness for a woman is not how much she looks up to her husband but how sensitive he is to her emotional cues and how willing he is to share the housework and child-care. And those traits are often easier to find in a low-key guy than a powerhouse.
I am not arguing that women ought to “settle.”
That last sentence is both funny and poignant. Coontz has just advised young ladies to marry short, poor, ignorant, obscure, ineffectual men who will help with household chores. If that’s not settling, the word has no meaning.
The cultural shift has begun. The Victorian myths of women’s unassailable purity are on the way out, and a more realistic interpretation of female sexuality is finally beginning to enter the mainstream. This will have profound consequences for policy in the long term, but there’s still work to be done.

I have my own theories on hypergamy, based on what I have seen in Mexico. Living in a different culture causes you to take a new look at things.
Hypergamy, IMO, includes the gold-diggers and opportunists, of course. And, when I first came to this village in rural Mexico, they were rampant. One woman who had already dumped her first husband for another man told a friend she didn’t care if I were married, she wanted her papers for the US.
However, as time passed, I saw another side of hypergamy. Women, in some cases 45 years my junior really wanted me, in the carnal sense. It took me a while to understand these were women who know me personally, not just opportunists. And, they found me attractive. Blechhh!! I have a good mirror.
This side of hypergamy makes the man with assets look better than he really looks, and I mean physically. I am nearly 70, yet a very small number of young 20 something women view me as very desirable. Just as many women view Donald Trump as desirable. While I have no high view of my own appearance, I do think I am not any less attractive than Trump. I mean, look at him one time, heh, heh.

I’m certain that the feminists who like to monitor the manosphere have come across it. It’s foundationl to manosphere thought. This suggests to me that they are either really afraid of it as a notion or haven’t figured out any strategy they’re confident eough in to be able to oppose it.

We need many less women than we have. Just in the US, there are well over one million abortions a year. Whatever number of women that involves, and it is a complex equation because not every woman has a child every year, we have that many more women than we need.
Ditto for other nations.
So, I for one, do not see any reason for giving women special treatment. This is not 1850 in an unsettled country.

The intent of people such as Koontz and our smarmy friends over at “The Good Men” project is to protect Feminism’s flank from the Hypergamy meme spreading and taking a foothold in the collective conscience.

They date for a year or so and then marry in a glorious wedding with a honeymoon in Hawaii. Not long after she starts becoming bored with his “niceness” and thinks having a child will “cure” this. It does at first but eventually, as the child becomes more self-sufficient and school-aged she realizes she HATES him. He’s a stupid, incompetent dolt! She doesn’t know how she tolerated him for this long. Then, if she hasn’t had a second child by then, comes the Divorce.
This female ruled process is being played out over and over again in our society. If you don’t know a man this has happened to, you’re living under a rock. A relationship is not EQUAL. It needs leadership, and the woman does not want the responsibility and burden that comes with it. But women aren’t marrying “leaders”, because leaders are high-status, often wealthy men of which there are few.
So they “settle” for their “equal”; or a man that’s more like a woman, living more like two lesbians than Man and wife. And much like lesbian relationships die, so do these. This is what the secular-progressive/New Age/Egalitarian/Liberals pass for “progress” beyond the “patriarchal/privilaged/white-male” construct that’s been so oppressive to women.

I know it is not a very good example, but I think it shows some new trends in MSM.
The latest season of Survivor: One World has 2 tribes living together on one beach. Catch; they are separated by sex. Men on one side, women on the other (the moment I heard that, I had to watch the first episode).
Some highlights from episode 1:
-When they get to the camp women are all “go girl!” and belittling men. Even cheating on an arangment conserning the cooperation on hunting chicken. Men start making their camp.
-Within hours men have a basic camp with fire, THEN the b….s come and ask for “just an ember”.
-By the next day men are sleeping dry, boiling their own water and having fun. Women come begging for fire.
What impresses me the most is, there is not a shred of chivalry to be seen.

I have to laugh at boys like Reader. Reproduction is the most important thing in nature and a female’s preferences in a mate (and a man’s) are so hard wired that I doubt even psychosurgery or the Ludovico technique will change it.

Avenger, could you tell me how many children the average feminist has? I actually know some radfems, and the number of children varies from 0 to at most 1. If you count the abortions, the average number of children born alive to feminists (radfems and others) is likely negative.
So tell me, just how important is reproduction to feminists, based on what they do and don’t do?
Politically, feminists can’t accept the idea of hypergamy. It’s death to the fundamental blank-slate premise. It seems pretty clear to me that feminists value their political purity more than they value actual reproduction.

One more point: The dictionary definition of hypergamy that was thrown about here is not true hypergamy in its biological sense; it was the social construct used over 100 years ago to explain cultural patterns of human mating (in India it was or is still mandatory for a woman to marry above her).
True hypergamy exists in the female of almost all higher animals. It is NOT a rational decision to couple with a handsome, strong, wealthy or tall man. It is an entirely unconscious yearning to have one’s eggs coated with the baby juice from what a female perceives to be the highest status male available to her. It is, in humans, purely emotional.
Men do not get hot and bothered over a female because other men do, nor because she’s a 10. They do it because their genes have been mapped over millenia to respond sexually to indicators of high reproductive likelihood. For females, same thing genetically speaking, except behavior, attitude and other characteristics come into play. The PUA community knows what it’s talking about. So does David Buss, Ph.D.
Arabs conceal and isolate their women for this very reason. I lived in Saudi Arabia for 4 years, and numerous male Saudis told me how they hide their women, especially wives, away from competing males: If the woman sees in another man a superior extent of attractive qualities, she’ll fuck him at the first opportunity.
Arabs have known about hypergamy for centuries. Westerners are just barely recognizing the animal instincts in the female, and it’s going to cost holy hell socially if we don’t change marital law to recognize this…fast.

Let me introduce you to Informal Logic and Fallacies: you are speaking into terms of a genetic fallacy. And in no society in the past was the input of females highly valued.
This frat boy fantasy of Alpha Male promiscuity didn’t work in the real world of the past. Even if women did prefer the Alpha male, spreading his seed wouldn’t have resulted in much because infanticed was a common practice: this can be seen in folklore and mythology the world over (how you missed this, I don’t know.) Thanks to Marcus, I watched Survivor for the first time in my life. Mencken wrote almost a century ago something to the effect that arguments against polygamy (a variety of hypergamy) never come from women.
Some of the 2nd wave feminists actually did, eventually: if marriage was oppression for women then polygamy was multiple oppression.
Anyway, I think we’re regaining lost ground, as there likely was greater understanding at key points in the culture about these things than there is now. What might generally come under the heading “the basis for civilization”.
My issue with hypergamy now is how up and down are defined, because that’s the essence of the matter right there.. If you use females’ mate choices as your frame of reference, then it’s a feminacentric system by definition. To me, that’s a topsy-turvy world. The problem is not just societies refusing to admit men are needed in families. They also refuse to honor men for keeping communities healthy and countries in the First World. Brazil, like many modern countries, is following Japan’s lead. That is, educated women are having fewer and fewer children (often none!). That means there won’t be enough new humans to keep their society going . Or to care for the elderly.
First World females demanded and got laws that penalized penis-bearers. Guys lost out to affirmative action and technology. Many then chose to leave the rat-race, reducing stress in their lives… and taxes for their country .
Used to dating “up,” educated women now have fewer and fewer men to choose from. And fewer and fewer men pursue them. Instead, guys become scarce on jobs, preferring personal happiness over traditional “success.”
Dirty, dangerous, hard jobs subsequently don’t get done…or are done by immigrants.
Now I’ve nothing against LEGAL immigrants. Just saying that countries need to limit immigration for many reasons, not the least of which is the time it takes assimilate. If immigrants with poorer/bigger families get too numerous and dominate host societies, the latter become Third World.
I don’t think educated women are necessarily bad. The problem is that feminism arrogantly refused to sit down with men and discuss what males might want in a new social contract. That matters because when women enter higher education, it affects everyone.
In any case, women expanded their roles while assuming men would remain the same. That didn’t happen, being impossible.
Educated, single women (with one or no child) are creating a future where non-natives will rule their countries. A future where men no longer give a shit about “traditional” or “feminist” values (there being so little in it for guys), preferring to go their own way.
And why not? After all, the Taliban is fairer than feminism has been.

Tra la la la de da ! It takes a while for some to see the pattern but the penny eventually drops.
You see Anti Pheminsim, on most MRA type sites there is always hot heads but they eventually calm down many guys are brand new to all this some have a significant amount of experience and knowledge, some hold quite strong beliefs and heated debates are not uncommon. However, the vast majority of the genuine guys on here all realize the following; all men and from all backgrounds colours religions and nationalities have had the shitty end of the stick for a very long time.
Guys that really start to see this, swallow the red pill etc, can become very hostile very angry but they also settle down, eventually. Now having said that, in the mix of all this is a healthy dose of feminists and women in general that make a few comments, usually pretending to be something they are not. i.e an MRA or man. We even get the occasional site destroyer, this type just like to stir the shit.
The tell tale pattern is usually and quite easily spotted especially after they have been pulled on some bull shit comment they have made. They then usualy start to identify what they think are less experienced posters or even the new guys and start making little insults or bait a thread with a racist comment. This also usually develops into direct insults aimed at individuals and the general membership. That’s their hidden anger and frustration being vented. They are not getting the response or results they need.
Despite strong differences of opinion most of us are genuine and want what is best for men and try and help or make suggestions that, at the very least, will help the younger guys avoid the shit we older guys allowed ourselves to be tricked into.

The truth is, we can only define an alpha after-the-fact, based solely on a particular woman’s reaction. If she picks a meat-head, then, mirabile dictu, we’ll think he must be an alpha. If she picks a scrawny guy, well, he must be an alpha, too. In other words, you cannot predict what women will do; ergo, nor who’s an alpha.
PUAs also seem to attract needy women. Females who have their shit together are not on PUA radars. Such women see through the guys’ shite. So what do we call an alpha who omegas with savvy chicks?

Interesting. Most “alphas” seem to want human sexbots. That is, women they can turn on and off like, er, robots. Fear of intimacy seems to dog both male “types.”
Others have said it before: PUAs have no better success rate than men who just interact enough with women. So the answer isn’t mastering endless PUA techniques (learned for a price); it’s interacting more with more women and learning from it. Doing so with women you have something in common with dramatically increases success rates.
Now, how many PUAs actually sleep with the women they claim to? Where’s their proof?
How many alphas are just compulsive, deluded, rude fuckups?
I mean, is it really possible to “sleep with” (!) hundreds of women and not find ONE worth staying with? Could it be that PUAs “pump-and-dump” because they fear women finding out how shallow they are?

PUAs and alphas are, at heart, supplicators. They endlessly pursue the holy grail of Golden Poon. They crave validation via female bodies. How healthy is that? They’re like junkies who need hits of coke to feel good about themselves. Did their mothers not bound well with them (I strongly suspect that’s the case),
Most alphas seem limited as humans. The only things they seem to read involve collecting coochie. Outside of Poonanispeak they seem bereft of conversation. Plus they brag a lot. And we all know men who have to tell others how successful they are usually aren’t.
Alphas are like the woman in the movie, THE RED SHOES. She wanted to be a dancer. When she put on a certain pair of shoes she couldn’t STOP dancing. Like alphas forever trying to prove themselves. Yet alphas think they’re healthy, while deeming female nymphomaniacs “sick.”
Real leaders don’t have to shout and tell the world how powerful they are. Nor do they have to induce fear to obtain followers. People gravitate to them because they have their shit together and offer value to followers.
Also, for every over-the-top, acting-out “successful” sports coach there is an equally successful kinder, gentler one.
And remember: Mr. Rogers had a longer career than Howard Stern.
So the idea that only alphas are winners is hardly universally true.
I strongly suspect that alphas were shamed at some point in their life regarding interactions with women. That’s why they attack certain men later: those guys remind alphas of their own early awkward days. Instead of offering help, hazed members of the PUA frat pass on the pain.
Since when is being a bullying moral coward anything but “beta losertude”?

I suspected that early on. The tone was markedly different than other posts on this site. The more I read, the more I was convinced. Shaming was corroborative. The use of “whiner” was proof.
I kept responding to “it,” though, because I thought I could show ways to deal with fembots. That being said, and my replies to “s/h/it” (!) being done, I’ll not feed said troll again.
Finally, Avenger sounds like “bigguns,” the bipolar byotch at Salon. That is, another fat-ass’d, stay-at-home, “disabled” welfare leech who hates herself and all males.

To which I would respond, “if using nature as an excuse is okay, would you have a problem with a married man spreading his seed amoungst the female community?”
I hope the marriage strike continues. My advice to men: Sleep with escorts, work, workout and make friends with other like-minded men. Also, respect women who are respectful as you would respect men who are respectful. Too often, women who read comments like mine get the wrong idea, and assume that men like myself hate women. I don’t hate men or women. I judge people on an individual basis, with exceptions such as hypergamy, in which women can be collectively judged.
