Just when it seemed that the International image of American women couldn’t get much worse, single adoptive mother Torry Hansen of Tennessee drove Artyom Savalyev, her seven-year-old adopted son, to the airport with a one-way ticket to Russia, put him on a plane and shipped him back to where he came from.

Ms. Hansen used the standard excuse American women use when opting out of relationships: abuse. All we have at this point is her word that the boy was violent, disturbed and homicidal. To many men such excuses sound suspicious, as well they should, because they usually are. Interestingly, the Russians aren’t buying it at all, which suggests that only in the US do people take the word of a woman seriously when she claims abuse even in such unlikely circumstances.

Hansen is quoted saying “I’m sorry to say that… I no longer wish to parent this child.” This is a fairly shocking statement, but not all that long ago, if a woman said “I’m sorry to say that I no longer wish to be married to this man” it would have sounded pretty bad, too. Of course, that’s changed a great deal, so perhaps it shouldn’t shock us to see American women abandoning their children, adopted or not.

Naturally, the rest of the world views this with horror, and the Russians have threatened to cut off all adoptions to the US. American women – who, above all, want options – are not happy about this, despite the fact that they were all too happy to legislate strict controls on American men meeting with foreign women.

In the case of Artyom Savalyev, we see the familiar tactic of the woman making accusations and allegations against a defenseless, voiceless opponent. Ms. Hansen took care to make sure the kid was long gone before anyone could get another side of the story, and surrounded herself with female allies who would corroborate her story (another common tactic). Of course, being only seven years old and still learning English, little Artyom probably couldn’t have defended himself all that well in the first place. However, that she sent him back before coming out with the abuse story makes her claims all the more suspicious.

Perhaps this kind of behavior was bound to crop up sooner or later, because just about every man in the US who could be halfway credibly accused of abuse already has been in one form or another, so children are simply the next target. When even this has run its course, one wonders who American women will target next — space aliens?
