Just for the fun of it, I decided to look around at various female news anchors around the world to see how our own stacked up (heh) against them. I chose TV news anchors because, although they have to be attractive compared to the average woman, the standards are more realistic than they are for, say, bikini models. A news anchor should be at least a 7, and might represent (in terms of looks) an attainable woman for the average, ambitious guy. Needless to say, the results were depressing, as these things so often are for American men. Not only are we often disappointed while out on the streets of our once-mighty nation, we can’t even see something pleasant when we watch the nightly news, and to top it all off, now we know how much better other guys have it in the rest of the world.
It was harder than I thought to find photos of international news anchors (language barrier presents a problem in Google search), but I came up with a few for comparison. The header photo is of French news anchor Melissa Thieuriau.
Russian anchor for RT English language Russian broadcast Anna Federova:

Chinese CCTV anchor Shi Dan (puts Connie Chung in the proper perspective):

Brazilian news anchor Patricia Poeta:

And, finally, our very own Katie Couric:

I think we’ll all agree that France takes the gold in this competition. But if you aren’t sure of that, simply get a load of Melissa without her makeup on.
