In a crystal clear illustration of why conservatives are not to be relied on to do anything ease men’s pain, the Palins have demanded and received an order for back child support for over $21,000 for the last year. Johnston is now facing a monthly child support bill of nearly $2,000 for one child in addition to the hefty arrears.
While Bristol Palin lives with her millionaire mother, Johnston’s mother is under house arrest for dealing prescription drugs. Johnston’s family support is negligible.
Levi Johnston is no hero, but he’s a kid, and has little hope of maintaining the kind of income that justifies such an exorbitant child support order. Some have suggested that he may have work in pornography to pay the bills. Unfortunately, that’s probably the only job he’s qualified for that might pay around $100k per year.
Johnston is probably far from wealthy right now, and if he pays the rest of the order almost certainly will be close to tapped out after legal fees. If he isn’t careful or lucky, his arrears might build to a level that he cannot hope to repay any time soon, crippling him for his young adult life.
Conservatives commenting on blogs and websites have little pity for Levi, laying all the blame for the pregnancy on him, as though he raped Bristol. Sarah Palin, likely furious about Levi’s public criticism, has access to top-flight attorneys and piles of money. She can bury this kid, and it appears that she has.
Whatever people may think of Levi, this court order doesn’t bode well for any young men and boys in similar situations.
