Australian playwright Louis Nowra has come out on the offensive against fellow Aussie Germaine Greer, dismissing her notions of the true nature of women as fantasy. 40 years after Greer launched her feminist career with The Female Eunuch, Nowra has published a scathing critique in The Monthly, an Australian society magazine (requires registration, so for more quotes see this article).
Nowra’s criticism is mainly directed at Greer’s first book, which he describes as having utterly failed to predict how women would respond to women’s lib. Having grown up with an angry, frustrated and thrice-married mother, Nowra was initially supportive of the book. He writes that it convinced his mother to divorce his stepfather:
But my mother was the main reason I read feminist works. My father, a truck driver, was her second husband. An intelligent woman, she felt frustrated at living on a Housing Commission estate and her dissatisfaction showed itself in her volatile emotional states that ranged from vociferous anger to inarticulate fury at her predicament. From a young age, I knew she should never have married and had children. In my naive way, I hoped that feminism would change the world enough to enable women like my mother to find satisfaction in careers rather than marriage and childrearing.
[…]
Greer’s chapters were short and the one about women’s isolation in their homes and their monotonous and thankless work was particularly powerful. It changed many a woman’s life dramatically. A journalist friend gave it to her mother, who after reading it left her husband. There were countless similar stories.
Over time, Nowra grew increasingly “disenchanted” with Greer’s book, and finally, as a grown man who beat the odds and managed to thrive despite being raised by a volatile single mother, he has come out firmly against it.
As more and more men who grew up victimized by feminist ideology find their voice, feminist excesses will come under increasing scrutiny. It remains to be seen how this will play out politically, but the dam is starting to leak.

I’m hewyxx,
My parents never divorced. However, I really loved my mom and never really loved my dad. I too believed women could be better at ruling the world. Feminism and life experience have taught me different and has disapponited me. I hate Germaine and despise feminism. They’ve disappointed me and are on the way out because they are selfish, self-seekers and have treacherously betrayed their naive suppoters. They’re exposed for what they’ve always been.

‘They are selfish, self-seekers and have treacherously betrayed their naive supporters. They’re exposed for what they’ve always been’. (hewyxx)
Can’t argue with that.

Thank u jezebella. No response? Umm, hmm, umm. What’s their problem? ‘Selfish, self-seekers’ is a strong challenge.
They’re ‘starting’ to crack. Hmm, umm. Probably already defunct and obselete. Condemned into the great garden of irrelevance eka Jurassic Park, the final resting place of the dinosaurs. Finished cracking I would say and good riddance.
