I think that the world “soulmate” would be substituted with “rapist” if the 42-year old was a man AND not an elite, like Roman Polansky.

As a fellow geek, this poor lad was obviously ideal prey. Lonely, desperate, insecure, lacking social skills, ugly. As men continue to ignore a woman’s need for constant attention, the more women will try and make up for it by having sex with boys that don’t know better.
The feminists will change the age of consent for boys to 9 years-old, and force the 9 year-old to pay child support for 18+ years.

Yep. These ‘empowered’ and ‘liberated’ women who are so ‘in control of their own sexuality’ are so fucking revolting to any man with a brain they are left with seducing young boys who simply don’t know any better. There has been lots more incidents of women teachers seducing their students and you can bet the reason is that they can’t get a date with a real man.
When I was young it was ‘never accept lollies from a stranger’.

Has the world lost its head? I strongly doubt the boy was harmed in any way by meeting up with that woman, EVEN if they had sex! The furore generated by stories such as this is disproportionate, to say the least.
If two teenagers meet-up and have sex, it’s considered non-harmful. However, if one party is several decades older, all of a sudden people are calling for a lynching!

The Globe and Mail article clearly states that the boy not only lied about his age, but tried to cover up the lie when she suggested meeting his parents. He said he was 20, which is a perfectly legal age for this type of meetup. That makes him the troublemaker in this situation, not her. I hope she has a good lawyer.
As for the boy, he should do the world a favor and stick to hooking up with cougars *north* of the border, at least for the next couple of years.

Gotta agree with Welmer here:
Statuatory rape in all states of the US is a strict liability crime. There have been a few cases where faux ID’s where involved and the guy got off, but there have been more than a few where even the guy being drunk and presented with a faux id meant nothing. Basically, your only hope with statuatory crimes is mercy of the court or, in relatively rare cases a faux id. Nothing else.
She should have insisted on an ID. If he had a faux id there’s a slight chance she’d be off the hook. And it is true with the logs, they can verify that he did lie to her. Had this been a face to face or phone convo case, it would be he-said, she-said, about that. But even though they can verify what she was told, by our (rather ridiculous imho) laws it doesn’t matter.
And yeah, I imagine how much even more horrible this would be treated had the sexes been reversed.

Well, my first thought is they’re both ‘butt ugly.’ But then again, he is just a kid and many of us were ‘butt ugly’ at his age.
The double standard is glaring though, if the gender roles had been reversed some poor bastard would have been off to the gyno-gulag without a doubt. Then again, that’s the point isn’t it . . .

A point from this story I don’t agree with is: how can Texas claim any jurisdiction in this case?

LOL. Is just desserts, given that the WoW sites where this was reported were filled with over-defensive women who got online relationships and were more interested in defending them (despite that nobody asked) than, say, the poor kid.
Texas has jurisdiction because the crime was committed in Texas. She’s not being charged with statutory rape — she’s being charged with online solicitation of a minor (which she did presumably from her home in Texas) and child enticement, which she probably also did from Texas.
