According to the BLS, Male unemployment stands at 11.4%, a rate unseen since before America’s entry into WWII. Female unemployment, while higher than average, is almost 3% lower.
American men are increasingly disenfranchised, even as onerous burdens are placed upon them as husbands, fathers or even single men who are denied access to the wealth of programs available to women. Add to that the preponderance of females with degrees and in school, and the situation looks grim.
Some analysts predict that overall unemployment could hit 14%, which, given the current trend, would suggest a male unemployment rate approaching 20%:
Because a lot of PBI [private business investment] goes toward offsetting depreciation and increasing productivity, it takes a 5% year-over-year increase in PBI to produce a 1% increase in the number of jobs. Correspondingly, a 5% decrease in PBI will yield a 1% reduction in total employment.
The unemployment rate a year ago was 5.5%. Because the potential labor force is growing, we need employment to increase by 1% annually to keep the unemployment rate from going up. The 37.9% investment decline reported by the BEA [Bureau of Economic Analysis] can be expected to eventually produce a reduction in total employment of about 8.5%. Accordingly, we can expect unemployment to rise to about 14% within a year unless the downward slide of PBI is reversed.
Expect more men to lash out in desperation as their world crumbles around them, and they are faced with nothing more than punitive measures to keep them in line. Also, expect an increase in property crime and violence – particularly aimed at women – as prisoners begin to flow out of an overtaxed, expensive penal system.

Well yea open the eyes. I have been in 6 hospitals in 2 months and all of them except for the doctors (actually all my doctors even except for anathesiologist) and a few guys they are all woman. Go to a government office execpt for the top positions it is all woman. Went to dmv all woman. My last office all minority after I left top to bottom. Yea a real surprize here.

Exactly. A woman with a child gets health insurance a no rent apartment. 360 dollars in food stamps. Utilities paid. Plus money. She can also work and make even more money if she wants. A guy in same position minus kid gets food stamps and nada.

A guy here in Seattle just assassinated a cop shortly after losing his job and getting a $500 ticket for driving without insurance.
I remember how much rougher things were back in the late 80s/early 90s. I definitely expect a return to a more violent society, because we really only swept crime under the carpet by throwing huge numbers of people in prison. We can’t afford to do that anymore.

Good question. I met an ex-con not long ago. He was driving a nice car and looked pretty happy about life. I complimented him on his car, and he said, “it ain’t mine, it’s my lady’s car.” I looked in the passenger seat and there was this hot young woman who looked to be about 15 years younger than him.

The reality is, however, a large pool of formerly prosperous single White men is a revolution waiting to happen. I think an instructional case to look at would be the drug war. In the war on drugs we have locked up a lot of people who only wanted to get high with hardened criminals.
Although I am not an expert on the drug war, I have heard that this strategy has had two major consequences:
1) People who would ordinarily live regular lives get turned into criminals by their time in jail. I am guessing this is due to both having them rub elbows with hardened criminals and making it hard for them to find work when they get out because of their criminal record.
2) The US has the highest prison population in the world. I have seen the stats, but I do not remember if this is the largest population per capita or absolutely.
Based upon this I would guess that the mancession might turn a lot of “nice guys” into “bad boys” by sending them to jail. It will also turn the US into more of a totalitarian state politically as the size of the prison system and number of law enforcement officers increase.

No. The whole point is that there aren’t enough taxes to pay for this level of policing and imprisonment.
It takes all sorts of taxes, rules, and oppression on men to create ‘the matrix’ in which women can feel ‘empowered’ and ‘liberated’. Eventually, men are no longer willing or able to keep the wheels in motion, and the tax base shrinks.

I’m beginning to wonder if males, in the short term, aren’t going to end up becoming a bit more like male lions. I could see many of them ending up unemployed, hanging out at the gym, eating like crazy, playing with the kids, guarding their turf…and that’s about it.

Worst case scenario could be ‘all women’ gated communities emerging to tackle such threats. It will be a slow path to isolation and imprisonment of their own making. ‘Women’s worlds’.

Not counting “discouraged workers” and other complications – the white male college graduate unemployment rate is 4.2%. The white female college graduate unemployment rate is 3.8%. Not a big difference. (For non hispanic/non African American college educated workers the gender gap is 0%)

Another way to look at this data: Men still go into occupations where they earn more money than women. This is partially because they take more risk by avoiding the low risk/low return jobs that women favor (Also favored because women are more likely to accept lower pay when their job involves greater interpersonal interaction). More risk means they have higher unemployment. The slow death of the manufacturing economy to global competition is contributing to this current gap, but it isn’t far from what is expected. (The extra support to specifically get women jobs in fields when men also need work is ridiculous, but I have not seen numbers to convince me that these programs are significant outside of their symbolism.)

Taxes are always complicated, because they create a feedback loop; lowering taxes might lead to more revenue from taxes, raising taxes might lead to less.
And this might happen in the short or the long term, depending on how the increase is structured and what the options of those subjected to it are.
In other words, I don’t think it’s really possible to say if we are “tapped out” or not, but what I can say is this:
Higher taxes will decrease the economic output of a country in the long run, as governments are less efficient with their money than private corporations are, on average (this is assuming, of course, there is some kind of developed economy to begin with).

This is some silliness and fearmongering. Recessions end, I doubt there’ll be a dramatic collapse where men descend into depravity and crime on a wide scale. Sure, it’s bullshit that safety nets are extended to women and not men and that men are increasingly less represented in education, but there’s no apocalypse coming. What you probably need to worry about is that 125% increase in the money supply, economic growth obviously won’t come close to matching that and the effects of pumping that much money into the economy should become apparent in a few more years.

The most successful “Ladies Man” I know is an ex-con (multiple drunk driving offenses and attempted murder) and is also an alcoholic, drug addict, drug dealer, gambler, and white supremacist. I have been pointing out the fact that women are increasingly the victims of violent crime by men who were raised by women……women laugh at me…oh well…laugh all the way to the morgue. My comment on unemployment rates were directly from the nytimes graphic that Zoomo linked to.
As for college data, I was right on the aggregate and wrong on the trend. White men and women are equal when it comes to educational attainment, unadjusted for age as 27.7% of white men and 27.1% of white women have at least a Bachelor’s.
However, adjusted for age the 2008 census shows 26.7% of 25 to 29 year old white males have at least bachelor’s degree compared to 35.9% of white women in that same age group (22% vs 27.1% for just bachelor’s).
This data is for the civilian noninstitutional population, so adding in prisoners and military might further skew the data against men.
