An Introduction

Post image for An Introduction

by Welmer on September 24, 2009

Now that we’ve got our own online magazine, I thought I should write an introductory post, so I’ll do my best to sum up the vision and intent of this publication in a few short paragraphs.

First, I’d like to welcome all readers. In this era of interactive media, you are not only readers, but participants as well. Every thoughtful comment and bit of feedback adds to The Spearhead. Our contributors are writing for you and speaking truth to the world — including those who refuse to listen. This publication is about finding our voice and making it heard, which is, given the fickle nature of public attention, a never-ending job.

I chose the name as representative of the masculine concepts of freedom, action, vigilance and purpose. Many of my readers on Welmer also suggested a classical theme, and after trying to find a suitable Greek or Latin phrase, I came upon the idea of using clean, simple English to make the point. If some find it a bit rough, too bad; it’s a vigorous, penetrating concept that will leave an impression.

The picture I’ve included with this post is of Ajax carrying his friend Achilles, slain by the coward Paris in a war started by a fickle, cheating wife. Proud, heroic Achilles, laid low by a poisoned dart, is a metaphor for our once strong civilization, which at the peak of its glory was suddenly dealt a treacherous, fatal wound.

As our society slowly hews down the last pillars of masculinity, ennervating a once vigorous civilization, it is important that some among us continue to stand up and live, speak and think as men. Traditionally, civilization – a male construct – has existed in a balance with society, which is largely a feminine domain. As we sacrifice male virtues and qualities for the benefit of society, civilization inevitably dissipates, leaving us with no more than a mass society dominated by fleeting desires, gossip and fashion. This is the “degeneration” so many decry — it isn’t that society is falling apart; rather, society is devouring what’s left of civilization.

This magazine is dedicated to that remnant of civilization, which will eventually rise again. It is an outpost in our cultural wasteland, which is dominated by pretty lies and mindless babbling.

Here at The Spearhead, we’ll bring you the cold, hard truth, whether or not it’s tactful or comfortable. We’ll go farther than telling you the emperor has no clothes; in fact we’d be happy to strip him and parade him naked in front of all his subjects. We aren’t really interested in conservatism or liberalism — when the entire structure is rotten you might as well bring it down so as to build a newer, better temple.

In the meanwhile, I invite readers to participate in laying the groundwork for a renewal even as the rotting hulk crumbles around us.

I love the name, the concept, and the look.

Thanks.

The thumbnail image of the story from the mainpage is broken. Just an fyi. (nice intro piece)

Welmer September 25, 2009 at 11:41

I know. I’ve been too busy working on other bits of code, so I haven’t bothered with it yet. It’s in the WordPress core PHP, so I might just delete the thumbnail for that image rather than run the risk of screwing up all the thumbnails.

This theme I’m using is excellent, but I’m still learning how to use it properly.

Beautiful image,Welmer. I guess “The Aventine” wasn’t to your liking.Oh well,in any case I look forward to reading and posting here.Looks like you’re off to a brilliant start!

Welmer September 25, 2009 at 12:57

Actually, Ovid, check the domain availability — almost all the good classical stuff is already taken.

It’s great to see the masculine spirit doing what it always does – creating something out of nothing.

Congratulations for conceiving this site, building it, and attracting the talented writers who will add so much to it.

It appears a few posts are not showing up on the site.

The Spearhead is a good title. I liked the end of your Introduction. ‘Bring it Down’ is how I feel, and in a sense I rather feel that feminism needs to be pushed even further until it destroys itself rather than resisted.

Yes for me there is no politics either. There is also no nationality and no patriotism either. All is transcended. Remember this Magazine will be read by men all over the world. I myself am in Europe, and others will be in Asia or Africa.

The name is perfect :)

You should get Rob Fedders (No Ma’am) to contribute, if he is still alive and online.

Cultured Ape September 27, 2009 at 19:10

Excellent. It’s gonna be a good ride.

Harry September 28, 2009 at 14:13

I agree with Deansdale.

Rob Fedders is a #1 author.

Puma September 28, 2009 at 14:29

Rob Fedders has been visiting the MGTOW board (i.e. “DGM3″) on and off. The last time I saw his posts was about 8 weeks ago.

Sure, whoever wants to contribute should just contact me or Nova and send some links to content. To be honest, this project has kept me pretty damn busy the last couple weeks, so I’m relying on people being proactive about contributing to the blog — I don’t really have time (at the moment) to go looking for people, but am always open to them getting in touch, like zed did.

BTW, do any of you guys like the idea of RSS feeds for comments and particular authors?

Novaseeker September 28, 2009 at 14:40

Sure I think RSS would work.

Welmer September 28, 2009 at 14:47

OK, I’ll work on getting the RSS for comments up and then try to figure out how it would work for individual authors.

What do you think of the favicon Prime designed? I think it’s pretty neat, but it took me a lot longer than it should have to get it to display across the entire site (had to navigate a couple different header.php files).
